tigger talullah’s Litter of five Has Arrived
december 8, 2024

Week 1 — The Beginning
Born in the early hours of DECEMBER 8, 2024
The long-awaited litter from Tigger Tallulah arrived on December 8, 2024, marking one of the most meaningful moments we’ve had at Owendale Lurchers. This breeding was the result of a carefully planned artificial insemination — a pairing chosen to preserve the heritage, temperament, and elegance that define our Deerhound Lurcher line. Tigger carried her litter with the same calm, gentle nature that she shows in daily life, and we watched her pregnancy with great hope.
When the day finally came, Tigger delivered ten puppies. Heartbreakingly, five were stillborn. Loss is always difficult, and we honor each of the little ones who did not survive. But amidst that sorrow, we are grateful for the five strong pups who did make it — four girls and one boy. From their first breaths, they showed the quiet resilience and soft strength that run deep in this line.
Tigger is proving to be a devoted mother. She settled immediately into caring for her newborns, attentively guiding them toward warmth, nursing, and rest. The surviving pups are thriving — nursing well, gaining steadily, and showing beautiful early structure. Each day brings small changes as their expressions sharpen and their personalities begin to peek through.
This litter carries both the story of challenge and the promise of new beginnings. We look forward to sharing their growth over the coming weeks as they open their eyes, strengthen their legs, and begin exploring the world around them. Their arrival is a reminder of why we do what we do: to honor the lineage, spirit, and quiet nobility of the Deerhound Lurcher.
Week 2 — Eyes on the World
First Glimpses of Life
At two weeks old, the puppies are beginning to truly come alive. Their eyes are just starting to open, revealing soft blue-gray glimmers that will slowly shift into the soulful Deerhound expression we love. They are still unsteady and dependent on Tigger for nearly everything, but each day brings noticeable changes — stronger voices, more deliberate wiggles, and the first attempts at crawling toward warmth or familiar scents.
Tigger remains endlessly patient, keeping her pups close and responding to every sound with gentle reassurance. The litter is thriving under her care. Their coats are thickening, their bodies are lengthening, and they are settling into a comfortable rhythm of nursing, sleeping, and exploring the world by touch and smell. This is a quiet, tender stage — one where you can almost see their futures beginning to take shape.

Week 3 — Little Wanderers
Finding Their Footing
By Week 3, the puppies are becoming far more active and aware of their surroundings. Their eyes are fully open now, and they’ve begun to study the world with curiosity and confidence. Wobbly steps have replaced their earlier crawling, and they’re starting to follow one another in small, clumsy adventures across the whelping area.
Personalities are emerging: a bold pup who leads the way, a thoughtful observer who studies before moving, a gentle one who seeks closeness to the others. Their voices are louder too — soft barks, small growls, and playful squeaks that fill the space with life.
Tigger continues to guide them with grace. She allows them a bit more independence but checks in constantly, never letting them drift too far. This is the stage where they begin to feel like a little tribe — learning from each other, leaning on each other, and growing quickly.
Week 4 — Playful Hearts
Playful Sparks
Week 4 marks the start of true playfulness. The pups now recognize familiar sounds, respond when their littermates approach, and greet the day with a burst of energy that lasts longer with each passing morning. Their movements are steadier, their coordination improving, and their curiosity has opened the door to early social behaviors — pawing, tumbling, gentle mouthing, and short bursts of chasing.
Their coats are beginning to show hints of the elegant Deerhound silhouette they will grow into, and their expressions are bright and alert. This is also the week when they begin sampling softened food, though Tigger remains a central figure in their lives, watching proudly as her pups take these first steps toward independence.
Each of the five puppies shows promise — in structure, temperament, and spirit. Their journey from fragile newborns to confident little explorers has been remarkable to witness, and the coming weeks will bring even greater transformation.
